Sunday 13th April
Palm Sunday
A Service of the Word

St Jozef Church, Moorsel

Welcome

Christ enters his own city to complete his work as our saviour,
to suffer, to die, and to rise again.
Let us go with him in faith and love,
so that united with him in his
sufferings, we may share his risen life.

Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!
The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;

the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
I will not die but live and will proclaim what the Lord has done.

Collect for Palm Sunday

True and humble King,

hailed by the crowds as Messiah:

grant us the faith to know you and love you, that we may be found beside you on the way of the cross,

which is the path of glory. Amen

Song:

King of Kings, Majesty

God of heaven living in me

Gentle saviour, closest friend

Strong deliverer

Beginning and end

All within me falls at your throne

Your majesty, I can but bow

I lay my all before you now

In royal robes I don’t deserve

I live to serve your majesty

Earth and heaven worship you

Love eternal, faithful and true

Who bought the nations,

ransomed souls

Brought this sinner near to your throne

All within me cries out in praise

Your majesty, I can but bow

I lay my all before you now

In royal robes I don’t deserve

I live to serve your majesty

Song:

Hosanna hosanna

Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna hosanna

Hosanna in the highest

Lord, we lift up your name

With hearts full of praise

Be exalted, O Lord my God

Hosanna in the highest

Glory, glory

Glory to the king of kings

Glory, glory

Glory to the king of kings

Lord, we lift up your name

With hearts full of praise

Be exalted, O Lord my God

Hosanna in the highest

Confession

On Palm Sunday, the crowds worshipped Jesus;

on Good Friday they shouted for him to die.

Let us who also worship him,

confess that we sometimes reject him, and ask his forgiveness:

Lord Jesus Christ, you come to us in peace,

but we shut the door of our mind against you.

We are truly sorry. In your mercy:

forgive us and help us.

You come to us in humility,

but we prefer our own proud ways.

We are truly sorry. In your mercy:

forgive us and help us.

You come to us in judgement,

but we cling to our familiar sins.

We are truly sorry. In your mercy:

forgive us and help us.

You come to us in majesty,

but we will not have you reign over us.

We are truly sorry. In your mercy:

forgive us and help us.

Lord, forgive our empty praise,

fill our loveless hearts;

come to us and make our lives

your home for ever. Amen

Song:

Amazing grace,

How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind but now I see

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed

My chains are gone

I’ve been set free

My God, my saviour

Has ransomed me

And like a flood

His mercy reigns

Unending love, amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me

His word my hope secures

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures

My chains are gone

I’ve been set free

My God, my saviour

Has ransomed me

And like a flood

His mercy reigns

Unending love, amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow

The sun forbear to shine

But God who called me here below

Will be forever mine

Apostles’ Creed

Do you believe and trust in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ?

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayers of Intercession:

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever. Amen.

Offertory prayer

Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
you did not spare your only Son,

but delivered him up for us all,

so that through him you could freely given us all things:

receive these offerings which we bring and dedicate to you;

enabling us with all our gifts, so to yield ourselves to you,
that with body, mind, and spirit we may truly and freely serve you,
and in your service find our deepest joy.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.

Church family news

Song:

You’re the Word of God the Father

From before the world began

Ev’ry star and ev’ry planet

Has been fashioned by your hand

All creation holds together

By the power of your voice

Let the skies declare your glory

Let the land and seas rejoice

You’re the Author of creation

You’re the Lord of everyone

And your cry of love rings out

Across the lands

Yet you left the gaze of angels

Came to seek and save the lost

And exchanged the joy of heaven

For the anguish of a cross

With a prayer you fed the hungry

With a word you calmed the sea

Yet how silently you suffered

That the guilty may go free

You’re the Author of creation

You’re the Lord of everyone

And your cry of love rings out

Across the lands

With a shout you rose victorious

Wrestling vict’ry from the grave

And ascended into heaven

Leading captives in your way

Now you stand before the Father

Interceding for your own

From each tribe and tongue and nation

You are leading sinners home

You’re the Author of creation

You’re the Lord of everyone

And your cry of love rings out

Across the lands

Prayer for Palm Sunday:

God our Saviour,
whose Son Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as Messiah to suffer and to die,
let these palms be for us signs of his victory;
and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King,
and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.
Amen.

Closing Prayer and Blessing

Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne on high. Amen

Christ crucified draw you to himself,

to find in him a sure ground for faith,

a firm support for hope,

and the assurance of sins forgiven;

and the blessing of God Almighty,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Be with you and remain with you always.

Amen.
